The Wii U has been available for a little over a full year now and despite that, there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding just how powerful the console really is. According to some new pieces of information uncovered, the Wii U could be more powerful than previously thought just from examining the internals of the system. For starters, the Wii U was developed under a shroud of secrecy, which led the internet to run rampant with rumors about its capabilities well before any dev kits or retail machines made it into the hands of consumers.New information that’s been pointed out include the fact that Renesas Electronics, later merged with NEC, is responsible for the Wii U semiconductor just as they were responsible for the Xbox 360 semiconductor. New semiconductor tech produced in 2012 is logically going to be better than that produced in 2004, when the Xbox 360 was still in development.According to some sleuthing by the folks over at CinemaBlend, the Wii U’s eDRAM should be capable of much more output than that of the Xbox 360. When taking into consideration the new information and the Wii U’s total bandwidth of gigabytes per second, the Wii U should clock in at around 563.2GB per second. For comparison, the Xbox One runs at about 170GB per second of bandwidth between DDR3 and eSRAM.This explanation could show why the Wii U is capable of hitting 1080/60fps on titles with developers who are comfortable working with the hardware, while others struggle and make excuses as to why 1080p gaming isn’t possible on Nintendo’s latest console. Of course, there’s plenty of speculation about specs and the semiconductor technology behind the Wii U, so check out the full piece to see the conclusion. The fact is, the Wii U isn’t nearly as much of a flop hardware-wise as certain third party developers are attempting to paint. -Davius Reid Sources: http://wiiudaily.com/2014/02/wii-u-powerful-semiconductor/

- NiWa Source: CrunchyRoll Many fans will remember Cartoon Network's late night block Adult Swim (and subsequently Toonami) as their first exposure to a more mature brand of animation that goes beyond Pokemon and Spongebob. Such fans will get to enjoy Adult Swim an hour earlier as the block will be expanding from 9 PM to 8 PM starting March 31st. Considering the block is a ratings giant with viewers from the 18-34 and 18-49 demographics, the expansion makes perfect sense. For the Parents Television Council, however, the adult block's sudden expansion could be a danger to unsuspecting children everywhere.
“Parents beware: not all cartoons are created equal." said said PTC President Tim Winter in the organization's February 5th press release, "And what’s particularly dangerous about Cartoon Network and ‘Adult Swim’ is that the content changes from being kid-friendly to adult-oriented not with the click of a remote, but with the tick of the clock,” He continues by stating that "Cartoon Network’s ‘Adult Swim’ has a long history of marketing explicit animation to children. The network’s announcement that it is moving this programming block to an even earlier hour when children are more likely to be in the audience is disturbing on a number of levels. The network claims that they’re targeting adult males by moving ‘Adult Swim’ to an earlier hour, but in the process children are being thrown under the bus." Citing their research which documents the amount of sexual content in recent cartoons, the message of the PTC is clear: “The cable industry must be exposed for their contemptible bundling scheme that forces families to underwrite explicit content. And until the system is fixed, parents must be on high alert.” Given the common perception of Cartoon Network as a kid's channel, it's only natural some parents would be concerned. Of course, said parents can heed the warning that Adult Swim gives at the start of the block and in-between commercials and change the channel if they feel their kids shouldn't be watching. Amazing what a remote control can do. - Richard "Rikun" Jao Sources: New York Daily News, PRWeb, New York Times While two Sword Art Online characters have already been revealed as part of the Degenki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX cast, a recent report by Dengeki Online mentions that at least one more will be a part of the crossover fighter. Following up on preliminary news this past November, Aniplex of America has announced that the Blue Exorcist TV series will be making its U.S. network television debut on Adult Swim’s Toonami on February 22nd. About Blue Exorcist:
Assiah: the realm of humans. Gehenna: the realm of demons. Normally, these two dimensions would never intersect, but having possessed all material substances, the demons are now intruding on the material world. But among the human race, there are those who can exorcise such demons - the Exorcists. Based on the manga by Kazue Kato (published on Jump Square by Shueisha), Blue Exorcist successfully depicts a hero, Rin Okumura, an energetic, yet naïve young man who aims to become the ultimate exorcist. The manga has been made into animation in the hands of Japan’s acclaimed staff including director Tensai Okamura (Wolf’s Rain, Darker Than Black) and Animation Studio A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Oreimo 2). - NiWa Source: Crunchyroll |
